Eerste vrouwelijke directeur van de Openbare Bibliotheek Gouda

Marijke Visser was van 1975 tot 2000 de eerste vrouwelijke directeur van de Openbare Bibliotheek Gouda. Ze was co-auteur van het boek Een tempel van Vrede 1929-1979, 50 jaar Openbare Bibliotheek. Ze was gehuwd met Fred Hoppe en had een zoon, twee dochters en drie kleinkinderen. De laatste twintig jaar van haar leven was ze politiek heel actief in haar woonplaats Reeuwijk en was ze raadslid en voorzitter van de fractie PvdA/Groen Links en later een zeer gewaardeerd en betrokken raadslid voor Groen Links.

Dat Marijke de literatuur en cultuur een warm hart bleef toedragen blijkt uit de volgende functies die ze na haar directeurschap van de bibliotheek bekleedde.

Marijke was een sterke persoonlijkheid, recht door zee, integer en ze bracht kordaat haar mening naar buiten, maar ze verhardde niet in haar standpunten en was altijd bereid om een uitweg te vinden.
Ze overleed plotseling op 74-jarige leeftijd.

Marijke Visser was the first female director of the Public Library Gouda from 1975 till 2000. She was also co-author of the book: Een tempel van Vrede (A temple of Peace) 1929-1979, 50 years Public Library. She was married to Fred Hoppe and they had a son, 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. The final 20 years of her life she was politically active in Reeuwijk, where she lived and where she was a member of the town-council and president of the parliamentary party of PvdA/Groenlinks and later a most appreciated and involved councillor for Groen Links

She continued to be very much interested in literature and culture which becomes clear in the folowing functions she held after she stopped as director of the Public Library Gouda - Member of the board of the Library De Groene Venen Reeuwijk - Member of the board of the Foundation Vrienden Archief en Librije (SVAL) in Gouda - Volunteer in the Filmhouse Gouda.

Marijke was a strong personality, straightforward and incorruptible. She was resolute in giving her opinion, but she did not stick to her opinions and was always prepared to find other solutions.
She died suddenly at the age of 74.
